What we are doing in class

Autumn 2017

Our topic this term in the Acorn Class is Ourselves. The children will talk about their family and their individual likes and dislikes. They will explore their senses and become familiar with the school routines.

We will learn the story The Three Little Pigs. We will then talk about the materials used in building the houses and their properties. The children will think about their own home and how homes have changed in recent years. They will look at old and new homes. They will learn how children used to live. The children will develop their phonological awareness by listening to sounds and singing nursery rhymes.

The numeracy topic will focus on number skills at first then move on to shape, time and measurement.

The Personal, Social and Health Education topics for this term are New Beginnings and Getting on and Falling out. We will also learn about how Hindu children celebrate Diwali.

The children will be taught inside and outside so they will always need their coats. They will have P.E Tuesdays and Fridays so they need a named P.E kit in school.

At the start of a new year is a great opportunity to get into good habits. The children need to settle down to read for 10 minutes every night after school. Please join in with reading ribbons, your child needs to read at least 4 times with an adult to get their ribbon. They need their reading bags every day.
